Inception

Okay so I just got through seeing Inception. It was definitely a good movie. It was a little weird and a little out there, but I think that’s one of the reasons why so many people like it. It gives people a chance to dive into their imagination and see the world differently. This movie did an excellent job of plot, character development, and visual effects.

The plot of the movie was quite simple. It started with Leonardo’s character already being on the run and him looking for a break to be able to get back into America and see his children. He finally gets this break when he is offered a job of inception, the idea of planting an idea into someone’s dream. Hence the title, and the rest of the movie.

The characters in the movie are believable. Most of them come off as normal or disturbed but definitely genuine. And even though the whole idea is technically one of complete manipulation, the idea of planting an idea in someone’s mind, you still are rooting for the characters the entire time.

I saw the movie in IMAX and although it was not in 3D, which probably would’ve been even better, it still was really nice to see. The way they show the dreams and the way the walls lean and break, and the slowing down of time, are all worth seeing in this movie.

This movie would definitely be a 4.5 for me. It’s worth seeing and the ending is open for debate. Is he dreaming, did he make it back, you decide for yourself.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

Okay so I just got back from seeing Disney’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and I present to you the movie review. This movie is definitely Disney with its humor, relationships, and the characters. Disney does a good job creating a movie that really the whole family can enjoy from its back story to the magic on the screen.

As far as the humor goes, it is funny. It has numerous quirky moments in which the main character, a big nerd, tries to fit in as well as do magic. (Both tasks he does not do well). Most of the humor is poking fun of the main character, but Disney also mixes in the humor with the magical battles. Overall you get a movie that has nice action sequences especially the magical aspect along with comedy.

The relationships in the movie are also nice from the father son role of the master and student to the love interest relationships. This is one of the first Disney movies that I can recall when not a lot of emphasis was placed on his biological or adopted parents. This movie mainly focuses on the main character’s relationship with his teacher, which takes on his “parental” role. However Disney does show many parallels between Nicholas Cage’s character, Balthazar, being Merlin’s apprentice and the main character being Balthazar’s apprentice.

The characters you can’t help but like, or dislike. The good guys have either been labeled a nerd and picked on or had to endure centuries of searching for the apprentice while pining for his love. Things that are supposed to be relatable and understandable, as well as the bad guys being bad simply because they are. Disney at least tried to flesh out a characters rather than simply compose random people together for no reason.

Overall this movie is worth seeing. It is definitely a Disney take on magic its like a live version of the movie Fantasia in parts. And in many ways its reminiscent of Hocus Pocus, except the main characters aren’t defenseless.

A-Team

Okay so I just got back from seeing the A-Team, although growing up I only saw a few of the episodes I’d still say it was pretty good remake of a classic television show. The movie had lots of action very similar to show mixed with comedy that was ultimately nicely done. The action was huge plus, along with the accuracy of the characters, and even the ending fit together really well.

The action even according to the original show was a big part of it, which was the reason why it lasted for so long. The movie had lot of adrenaline driven missions with huge explosions and then there were lots of plot twists. If you’re looking for an action masterpiece combined with military knowledge, guns, and lots of explosions, then this is the movie for you.

The characters in the movie were pretty good too. I do believe the new actors brought out a new element to the characters; B.A. was still tough, Face was still handsome, Hannibal was still crafty, and Murdock was still off his rocker. It gave you an origin to how all of these various personalities met and how they clicked well with one another. They were characters that everyone could laugh at whole heartedly because you knew they were the good guys.

The ending for the movie although I won’t give it away, stayed pretty accurate to the show. So if you’re familiar with the show then, let’s just say you’ll expect the ending. And maybe there could be a part two to it to finish it out. You still get a chance to root for the bad guys and even at the end you just know that they are going to triumph over their next adversity.

It was great action movie, giving you enough plot and great characters that it clicked really well. If you need a good action movie in your life, then this is one not to miss. I’d give it a 4.5 out of 5.

Eclipse

Okay so I just came back from seeing the newest Twilight movie, Eclipse. To be honest it actually was better than what I first thought it would be, having said that…it still isn’t much of any improvement. Although I still believe this will probably be a big hit until they stop making movies of the series, I still stand by what I say. This simply is just not the best movie that’s out there right now.

All of the characters in the movie are the same. None of their personalities have changed, in fact not much about them has changed other than the fact Jacob likes to be shirtless a lot more. The movie’s lack of focus on individual character development is amazing. Everyone pretty much stays the same and this is the third movie.

The plot of the movie is getting a little bit better, only besides actually marrying Edward I really don’t understand what can happen with this series, besides of course the long drawn out, will he bite her question. There is at least more action in this one in comparison to the rest, but having said that, don’t expect a long violent fight scene, rather its like ten minutes of breaking statues.

I hope as far as the future of this series is that it will tie up well and finally give some action that most people are dying to see. I hope that it will also answer a lot questions that has been posed throughout the movies. But these are just my hopes, I guess we’ll just have to wait for the fourth and fifth, and yes there are two more, ones to come out.

For me, it would be a 3 out of 5. It tries to have a watchable love story that turns way too lovey dovey, not enough action, and actually poor writing. Some of the writing is actually getting worse. I hope they correct that.
